LUWFC  - Past Players

2007 Leavers

Laura Cook, known to everybody as ‘Moose’ is pictured below.  Moose was a fantastic player to have at the club and had 3 very wonderful years here.  Moose joined the club way back in October 2004, from Glossop Ladies FC who were sad to see her leave for university.  Whilst playing for Glossop, Moose blossomed into a reliable, strong centre half who was always tough to beat.

During the 04 - 05 season, Moose quickly proved she had the ability to stop even the best attackers and became a regular in the team.  On top of her footballing ability, Moose had great leadership skills and formed good relationships with everyone in the team.  As a result of this, Moose was voted captain for the 05 - 06 season and endured her finest days in the famous black and red stripes.

Moose, now in her second year and wearing the captaincy armband, continued to excel in her position and became better and better.  More vocal on the pitch and more dedicated, Moose set the tone for the rest of the team to follow.  Match after match saw strong performances not only from Moose but from her team.  They were annihilating teams and in one of the most successful years in the clubs history, Moose captained the team towards league succuess.  LUWFC won BUSA League 3A and were promoted to 2A, they also gained qualification for the BUSA Plate but were unlucky not to progess all the way.

In her third and final year Moose continued to be vocal on the pitch and had plenty of advice for the new freshers.  She developed a strong partnership in central defence with Fay Garrett and continued to thrive upon success.  Using her experience and excellence Moose commanded the defence with precision and won plenty of Player of the Match awards as a result.  The team finsihed second in the league, another successful year and Moose was honoured with the Player’s Player award for her efforts.  Those efforts were not only on the pitch but off it, Moose is exceptionally kind natured and approachable if ever in need.  A credit to club, who were sad to see her leave.

Moose was so attached to the club, she could not draw herself away even as new commitments entered her life.  Her familiar face can still be see on the training ground from time to time.  One thing is certain when Moose is around - there is not a smile or a giggle to far away either.  LUWFC will be sad when the day comes that Moose can fit training in no longer - but we thank her for the good years!
